1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Matthew 22:36-40
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Joel 2:28-29
28 “And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.
29 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

Acts 2:18-21
18 Even on my servants, both men and women,
I will pour out my Spirit in those days,
    and they will prophesy.
19 I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood and fire and billows of smoke.
20 The sun will be turned to darkness
    and the moon to blood
before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

Acts 4:12
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Matthew 26:26-28
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”
27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

Psalm 22:1
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?

Revelation 2:10
10b Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.

Matthew 28:18-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16 But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ 17 If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

2/18

7th Science - We revised our bean theories and looked at corrections for science fair reports.

7th Religion - Discussion Questions over Matthew 14 & 15 are due on Thursday:

  1. Jesus often went off by himself to pray.  He found it was important to be alone sometimes.  When have you really enjoyed the chance to be alone?  Why was this time important to you?
  2. Peter was able to walk on the water until he got distracted by the wind and waves around him.  What are the wind and waves around you that distract you and keep you from focusing on God?
  3. Jesus called the Pharisees blind guides, that if blind people lead blind people they both fall into a pit.  Have you ever listened to or followed someone who did not help you, who gave you advice that was not helpful?  What was that like?

8th Science - We continued working through ionic bonds and made graphs using the data from last week's lab. Presentations can happen tomorrow or next Wednesday.

World Religions - We finished the movie The Frisco Kid and prepared for our field trip to the B'nai Amoona synagogue on Friday (2/21).

2/14

7th Science - We finished sharing our theories on why the beans had different spots on them when we were trying to grow them. Next week we will revise our theories based on feedback that we got from classmates about our theories.

8th Science - We looked at ionic and covalent bonds through work with dot diagrams of elements, and completed a lab trying to control the exothermic reaction of calcium chloride.

7th Religion - Yesterday we talked about the importance of prayer, so today we practiced praying during class using the following list as a guide:

Spend some time quietly thinking about how God has spoken to people around you – how have your parents, grandparents, mentors, or other people and how they described time spent with God.

Spend some time quietly thinking about times that God has definitely spoken to you in your life.  When was it?  What was happening in your life at the time?  What did God want to say to you?  How has that impacted your life?

Spend some time thinking about how God may have spoken to you within the last 24 or 48 hours.  When did you hear Him?  What do you think he is saying to you?

Spend some time thinking about how God may have spoken to you through what you have seen lately, what people have said to you lately, or what you have read lately?

Think about some things that will be happening to you in the next few days.  How could God be working through the event you and your family have planned?  What do you think God would want you to say or do during those events?

Are there things that you have read in the Bible that stick out, things that you remember hearing or reading that seem really important?  (maybe something you heard in school, in church, in another book that quoted the Bible, a memory verse you really like, etc.)  How does God speak to you through those Words?

Spend some time in prayer right now and ask God to help you see ways that He is speaking to you and what He would want you to be doing.

Spend some time reading the Bible and praying about how God may want you to see ways that He is speaking to you and what He would want you to be doing.

Write down some things that stand out from spending this time with God so that you remember them.  If you do this in the future, you can compare the times that you spend with God and see how God is helping you grow in your faith and your walk with Him.

World Religions - We continued learning about Judaism while watching the Frisco Kid.

1. Why do you think Jesus went to 'solitary' places to pray?
2. What do you think Jesus prayed about?
3. When can you have solitary time with God? What would you pray?

8th Science - We did a lab with sodium bicarbonate and calcium chloride trying to control the amount of energy released in this exothermic reaction.  We also talked about the difference between ionic and covalent bonds.

  1. What parable has made the biggest impact on your life (it may be one from Matthew 13, but it might be another one like the Good Samaritan, The Prodigal Son, or any other parable Jesus taught)? Why?
  2. What things would be worth “selling everything you own” like the person did who bought the treasure in the field?  What are the really important things that are like a very fine pearl?
  3. Jesus was honored by many people, but not the people in His hometown that he grew up with.  It might be like a brother or sister winning a big award.  How would it be hard or easy for you to have your brother or sister or some one close to you honored instead of you?

8th Science - 8th Grade Project Reports Due 1/29

8th Grade Project Reports

Title Page (1)
Summary of Project (0.5)
Question/Hypothesis – What you wanted to do and what you expected from your testing (0.5)
Procedure – Step by step instructions how someone could repeat your project (1)
Variables – What you changed, what you measured, what stayed the same (0.5)
Connections to other ideas in science – background information (1)
Results (table/graph/pictures) (1)
Conclusion – What you learned (0.5)

Project reports should be about six pages in length and explain what you did and how you did it.  You should use your experience of doing science fair projects to this report, and it should serve as a basis for the display (board, powerpoint, video, etc.) that you will develop about you science projects.

If you did one project, then I would expect a very detailed report explaining this one project.  If you did several projects, then I would expect a more abbreviated explanation of each project, yet with enough information that those unfamiliar with your work would understand what you did in your project.

Project reports should be turned in on Wednesday - January 29 to Mr. Luehmann for review, and they will accompany presentations that you will complete during the month of February.

(Why do you think those results happened?)

55.  Provides information about what was learned as a result of this project

(What do you know now that you did not know in August?)
6
66.   Student shows awareness of reliability / accuracy of data – How accurate are the results compared to other people who might do the same tests?

(If everyone did the same science fair project as you, would they all get the same results?  Close?  Why or why not?)

77How thorough was this project?  What possibilities were considered to make it accurate?

(What did you do so that people could trust your results?)

8.  Ideas for a future related study are proposed

(Now that you learned information from this project, what else could you study about and test that is related to your project?)

9 9. Impact on society and/or the environment

(What can you project teach people? How could your project be a benefit to the world around us?)
