3/31

7th Science - We continued to identify and organize the plant species on our campus. We especially were identifying the following qualities of our plants:

  • Common name of the plant
  • Scientific name of the plant
  • Location of the plant on our campus
  • Benefits of having this plant on our campus

8th Science - Students were using our Vernier sound probes to measure sound, and then we set up an experiment to test the sound going through different mediums.

7th Religion - Pretest over Matthew 23-24

7th Science - We are organizing the animal species that exist here on our St. John campus, and we spent part of today learning how to identify bird sounds.

7th Science - We went over our Shape Island activity and discussed the parts of scientific names in class.

7th Religion - Discussion Questions over Matthew 22 are due Thursday (3/27)

1. One of the customs of weddings at the time of Jesus was that the host would provide nice clothes for the guests.  What are some customs at weddings these days that you think are very meaningful and why?
2. Jesus said the greatest commandment was to Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, strength... Explain why this commandment might be 'better' than some of the other good commandments God gave us.
3. The question about paying taxes really has to do with whether we should obey a government we don't agree with.  How do you think we should handle situations when we don't agree with our U.S. government?


World Religions - We watched a video about Islam. There will be a field trip to the mosque on Weidmann Road next Tuesday (April 1).

7th Religion - Discussion questions over Matthew Matthew 20 & 21 are due Thursday (3/13).

  1. In the Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard, Jesus shows that often things are not ‘fair.’  Why do you think we are so concerned about things being fair?
  2. At the end of chapter 20, Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem to fulfill his work as the Messiah.  On the way he was interrupted by two blind men who wanted their sight.  How do you handle being interrupted from something you feel is very important?
  3. When Jesus drove the money changers out of the temple he was angry, but it was a righteous anger since he should have been angry about those things.  When have you experienced or seen righteous anger?  How do you control this good anger and keep it from getting out of control?

World Religions - We read some Surahs (chapters) from the Qu'ran to be able to compare it to the Bible. We are very blessed to have the Bible as the Divine Word of God!

7th Science - Students finished their science fair presentations in class today.

8th Science - We practiced balancing chemical equations and worked through how to determine the atomic mass of an element using the mass of isotopes.

7th Religion - There was a pretest over Matthew 18 & 19. Discussion questions are due Thursday (3/6).

1.         Jesus outlines a good way to deal with conflict in Matthew 18 which starts by talking with the person about what he or she did to offend you.  What are some problems that have resulted because people do not always follow this way to deal with conflict?
2.         Jesus said that someone who wants to be great in the Kingdom of Heaven must become like a little child.  What does it look like when someone who follows Jesus becomes like a little child?  How does that person talk and act?
3.         Jesus said that it was difficult for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven, that it would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.  Why do you think it is hard for rich people to enter the kingdom of heaven?
